BYTEGEIST SOFTWARE

PTY LTD

Writing a computer game these days is an enormous task, many artists and programmers are needed with many people having to take up 'specialist roles' like A.I. Programmer, 3D Engine Programmer,  Tool Programmer, etc.

Each area of game development doesn’t always require a developer 24x7 for the entire duration of the game. For example the engine work often has developers assigned to it for most of the game. Exporter work is usually needed most at the beginning of a project. Tools and level editors are usually required to be built in the first half of the development cycle, and game play is usually done with the tools in the second half. Maintenance is always occurring. It does not usually make a lot of sense to an Exporter developer writing Exporters for the entire life cycle of a game, it make more sense to have the exporter taken care of quickly in the first couple of months (maximum). This is where outsourcing comes in. In-House traditionalists may argue that programming work doesn’t *need* to be outsourced. They would claim that most game studios have the talent to get all the tasks taken care of in-house. BUT, is this the most efficient and cost-effective way of creating a game?

There are many areas we can help with, a common request is our physics and vehicle simulation with collision detection skills. (see Bytegeist Vehicle & Physics Library for more info).

Example: Toon rendering & Anisotropic lighting effect.

The Bytegeist Software has worked on many games and on many game aspects. For example, we have amongst other things, considerable in-house expertise in Localisation and the corresponding issues which can arise.

Bytegeist In-Sourcing is the answer.

We have found in the past that many modules of game development can be done separately via just providing interfaces and good clean design.  Not only does this design method produce robust code, but it also makes it more re-useable and can help reduce “re-invent the wheel” syndrome.

Example: Bezier Patch Engine - model at different resolutions
